Heat Policy

We are expecting temperatures in the mid to high 30s this across Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Please note that games are set to go ahead as scheduled this weekend.

Teams can find more information about our heat policy here. Below are the key points:
- Games will be abandoned if the indoor temperature exceeds 40 degrees.
- Heat rules can be implemented any time after the indoor temperature exceeds 30 degrees, and are mandatory at 35 degrees or higher.
- Heat rules provide for a referee timeout at the midpoint of each half for the expressed purpose of players having a drink and a rest. Coaches can still use their timeout each half and are encouraged to do so.
All venues have heat monitoring tools and venue supervisors will keep a log of the temperature throughout the day and make the necessary decisions on games.
Waverley Stadium is equipped with evaporative cooling on all courts, and will also have a dedicated cooling area which is reserved for anyone suffering from heat related illnesses. This is not a general viewing/seating area. It is important this area is kept as cool as possible for it's intended purpose to admittance will not be granted unless symptoms of heat related illness are present, this is for the safety and well-being of all those affected by such illness.
Our three school venues are all specifically designed to minimise the impact of heat on the venue, and will have cold water available.
Our Box Hill venue is a dedicated sport facility with drinks and first aid available at reception in case anyone is suffering from heat related illnesses.
Finally, please remember out heat policy is designed in line with Basketball Victoria requirements. Each participant and family should be aware of their own personal requirements and how the heat affects them and make take appropriate precautions and action.
