Now that the Falcons Big V 2015 campaign has run its course, this week we'll be having a look at how our teams fared in season 2015. We start with the Victorian Youth Championship Men.
The Falcons made a competitive start to season 2015 under coach Sedale Threatt Snr., going down to prelim finalists Knox at the Round 1 Jambouree by single figures and pushing Nunawading the next week for another close loss.
Tough times then fell on the Falcons, dropping their next 7 games (although they did score a walkover win against Frankston in amongst that) at times by large margins before eventually breaking through for a win against another finals team, Sandringham.
Over the course of the seasons wins were few and far between for the Falcons, however they gave a good account of themselves in plenty of games throughout the season. The boys did end the season on a very positive note with a 14 point win over Diamond Valley.
A highlight of the season were some of the break out performances from players, which is always exciting in the youth comp.
Teny Puot dropped 31 points on Eltham including seven three-pointers, and then a few weeks later went beast-mode on Ringwood with 36 points and an outrageous eight three-pointers.
Big man Daniel Kinkela finished the season on a great note with an unbelievable double-header in the last round. On Saturday Night be piled by 20 points and 20 rebounds against McKinnon. He decided the rare 20-20 game was so much fun that he'd do it again the next day against Diamond Valley, stashing away 21 points and 20 rebounds.
Some other notable performances game from the very efficient Matthew Scammell, who shot 11/16 from the field against Bulleen for 28 points, and shot it even better against Sherbrooke, going 9/12 from the field in a 25 point effort. Young gun Hugh Baxter made a statement in the final game against Diamond Valley with 27 points.
Although a lean season in the wins column, it was a great year for the Falcons to unearth and unleash some ripping talent and all signs point to an exciting 2016 for the youth men.
Stay tuned this week as we look back on our other teams' performances this season.
