Special thanks to Team Manager Sally Wilson for the following report, and Shaun O'Donnell and other parents for the photos.
The U16.1 girls, playing in A Reserve, had a wonderful weekend of basketball. They advanced to the semi-final undefeated, with convincing wins over Casey (57-40), Whittlesea (50-19), Eltham 2 (51-21), Broadmeadows (53-30), Warrandyte (46-27) and Ringwood (53-35). The girls played in lots of different combinations with everyone performing well and making valuable contributions throughout. Highlights included lots of fabulous fast breaks, some super shooting with several sensational 3-pointers and some devastating defence. The semi-final against Broadmeadows was more challenging, but the girls fought hard to win 37-27. Unfortunately, the grand final against Casey proved to be more of a challenge and despite the fact that they beat this team in the first game of the tournament, the girls were unable to maintain their half-time lead, losing 32-23. Overall, it was great to see all the girls playing so well and having so much fun. They even enjoyed the pre-tournament training camp!
