Girls Got Game Exhibition Match

Some of the Falcons brightest young stars took to the court on Sunday prior to the Women's Big V Game as part of the VJBL and Big V 'Girls Got Game' round celebrating the involvement of girls and women at all levels of Basketball.

The Under 14 Green vs Gold match featured the Falcons Under 14.2 Girls (Green) team taking on team made up of players from the 14.1s, 14.3s and 14.4s (Gold).

For most of the game, the suprior execution of the green team saw them maintain a slender advantage, scoring well out of their set plays and keeping their structure defensively.

During the third quarter however, the Gold team kicked their defensive pressure up a notch and went on a big run to take the lead, which they held on to until deep into the fourth quarter.

With the game on the line, the green team once again executed with precision, scoring out of a set play to tie the scores up. That would be the final basket, leaving the scores level at 36 all at final buzzer.

It was a great game with all players on both sides contributing well. While a real theme of teamwork emerged from the day, the coaches after the game paid special note to the performances of a couple of players. Emily Sewell played a great game at both ends of the floor, really making her presence felt in the keyway for the green team; while Breanna Harper turned the game on its head with an electric third quarter, which saw the gold team turn an eight point defecit into a three quarter time lead.

The girls had their photo taken with the Falcons State Championship Women's team who had been watching on, before staying to enjoy the game between Waverley and Ringwood.

Huge thanks to Shane Palmer and Mike Bullock for their work in organising the day, and to the coaches and team managers who helped get the teams together. The work of our Court Announcer/DJ Bretherton and the referees is also much appreciated.

MindIT systems were on hand to do a live broadcast of the game with a very special guest commentator. The video can be found on their website www.mindittv.net.

WBA video man Shane Palmer put together the following highlight clip of the game:
