For the first time since their inception in 2009, teams from the Glen Iris Scorpions competed in the Nunawading Tournament on Queen's Birthday Weekend tournament. Both teams performed very well, Grant Haffenden sent us this report from the weekend:
A month ago, Coach Tim Jessen asked the playing group (and parents!) if there was any interest in playing at the Nunawading Queens birthday tournament. Interest was good, and two teams were formed, a boys under 14 and boys under 12 team. It was the first time that the Glen Iris Scorpions Basketball club had entered teams in an organised tournament.
Both teams played exceptionally well and came up against some strong Representative teams. The under 14 team, coached by Clare Schwartz, had some very strong performances throughout the tournament, but, unfortunately, came undone in the semi-final.
The under 12 boys team, coached by Tim, had a fantastic tournament, and went through undefeated, defeating Nunawading 5 in their Grand Final in fine style.
Well done to the boys and coaches for their wonderful performances!
Special thanks to all the parents who gave up their long weekend to traverse the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
