Under 16 Boys Adelaide Report

 On the Easter weekend a number of junior Falcons teams headed across to the Norwood Easter Classic in Adelaide.

One of these teams was a combined 16.5 and 16.6 boys team who took to the Western Highway for an action packed weekend. Coach Mark Handley gace us this run down of the tournament:

Basketball over the Easter weekend

Over the Easter weekend, the Waverley 16.5 and 16 sixes players combined to become the Waverley 56ers and played with Adelaide Easter Classic.. Below is a summary of the weekend games. A great effort of all the boys that just missed out on the finals, coming 3rd overall. A brilliant weekend and great deal of fun for the boys.

 

The Waverley 56ers Defeat Oakleigh

Hayden Handley scored 12 points to bring the Waverley 56ers to a 38-30 victory over Oakleigh on Friday.  The Waverley 56ers got the first quarter off to a good start, scoring 14 points on the strength of a 9-3 run. Handley led the Waverley 56ers's offense, going 4-for-10 (40%) from the field while also sinking 67% (4-for-6) of free throws attempted. Callum Charles made it into double digits, scoring 12 points for the Waverley 56ers (12-for-12). Also contributing for the Waverley 56ers were James Italia (5 points), Lachlan Robertson (3 points), Will Soutter (2 points) and Nick Scott (2 points).  The Waverley 56ers finished the game with 25 rebounds (22 offensive/three defensive).

 The Waverley 56ers Fall To Southern 3

 In a great showing, Hayden Handley scored 15 points, but this was not enough as the Waverley 56ers fell to Southern 3 42-30. The Waverley 56ers fall behind early, as they trailed 22-20 by the half after scoring a game-high 14 points during the second quarter.  Handley paved the way for the Waverley 56ers, making 55% (6-for-11) of shots attempted while also sinking 75% (3-for-4) of free throws attempted.  Also contributing for the Waverley 56ers were James Italia (7 points), Will Soutter (6 points) and Lachlan Robertson (2 points). The Waverley 56ers finished the game with 17 rebounds (11 offensive/six defensive).

The Waverley 56ers Beat Warrandyte 4

The Waverley 56ers won 45-41 against Warrandyte 4 on Saturday with the help of Will Soutter, who scored 11 points. The Waverley 56ers grabbed the lead against Warrandyte 4 on a two-pointer from Hayden Handley in the second period and held on.  The Waverley 56ers wrapped up the half 24-19 after a 17-6 run. Sinking 45% (5-for-11) of shots, Soutter had a solid performance from the field for the Waverley 56ers. Two other players also racked up double digit scores for the Waverley 56ers. James Italia added 10 points and Handley had 10 points. Also chipping in for the Waverley 56ers were Callum Charles (5 points), Nick Scott (5 points) and Harry Stratford (3 points). The Waverley 56ers finished the game with 16 rebounds (13 offensive/three defensive).

The Waverley 56ers Fall To Blackburn 2

 In a great showing, Hayden Handley scored 15 points, but this was not enough as the Waverley 56ers fell to Blackburn 2 57-30. Blackburn 2 clinched the game in the second period on a two-pointer and never looked back. With 16 points in the third quarter, Blackburn 2 added to their existing lead. The Waverley 56ers's Handley hit 7-for-12 (58%) shots from the floor. Also helping the effort for the Waverley 56ers were Will Soutter (6 points), Callum Charles (4 points), James Italia (3 points) and Lachlan Robertson (2 points). The Waverley 56ers finished the game with 19 rebounds (16 offensive/three defensive).

The Waverley 56ers Beat West Adelaide

 

Hayden Handley scored 21 points, helping the Waverley 56ers notch a 47-23 victory over West Adelaide on Sunday.  With a 20-7 lead at the half, the Waverley 56ers pulled ahead early in the game. The Waverley 56ers locked in their lead in the final quarter, scoring 14 points. Handley was on the ball from the field, making 83% (10-for-12) of shots attempted. James Italia tapped out at double digits, scoring 11 points for the Waverley 56ers (six-for-11). Also helping the effort for the Waverley 56ers were Harry Stratford (6 points), Callum Charles (4 points), Will Soutter (3 points) and Lachlan Robertson (2 points). The Waverley 56ers finished the game with 15 rebounds (nine offensive/six defensive).
