The Waverley Falcons have stated their championship intentions with the signing of WNBL forward Tegan Cunningham.
The Falcons’ latest recruit will be fresh off her latest WNBL campaign with the Logan Thunder where she is currently averaging 12 points and 7 rebounds per game.
A move back home to Melbourne was a welcome change for Tegan who has been travelling a lot in recent years.
“I played for Nunawading last year but they recruited pretty heavily this year and ended up not really having a spot for me”, said Cunningham.
“So I didn’t really want to fish around and look to play for another SEABL team with all the travel which gets a bit too much with the WNBL as well. Waverley approached me and I just jumped in.”
Tegan will line up along side Dandenong Ranger Brigitte Ardossi to create a tough duo that will be a handful for any State Championship opponent.
“She is one of those players you love having on your team, but its not very enjoyable going up against her!
“It’s always a battle. But it’s obviously going to help the team out a lot having her and she’s a great player.
Both Cunningham and Ardossi will be tasked with leading this young core of Falcons who continue to improve with each passing year.
“Its one of the reasons I wanted to play for Waverley as well. I played WNBL for 4 years and now and I’ve never been the leader.
“I’ve had the likes of Jenna O’Hea, Kathleen McLeod and Kristen Veal this year so its always hard because you can only say so much without stepping over the mark. So obviously with Waverley being a very young team, Brigitte and I will need to take on a leadership role.”
With a nice blend of experienced WNBL caliber players and a host of hungry youngsters, the Falcons will be primed to swoop on a title in State Championship Women this year.
