Melbourne Tigers Tournament

A number of Falcons teams ventured to Dandenong over the middle weekend of school holidays to compete in the Melbourne Tigers Junior Tournament, and the results were very positive. The Under 14.1 Girls took home the premiership in the top division of Under 14s, and a report for that team is included below. The 16.3 Boys were also victorious in the B grade Grand Final, recording a 15 point win over Mansfield. The 16.4 Girls also had a great weekend making the Grand Final.

Under 14.1 girls won their second tournament in as many months, following their success at the Nunawading Tournament on Queen's Birthday, the girls again took home the prize in the Melbourne Tigers tournament, Team Manager Leanne Ching gave us this report:

Members of the 14.1 girls team, along with Tess and Claire from the 14.3's came together over the weekend to compete in the Melbourne Tigers Tournament, securing their 2nd tournament title for the year.  However, it was not straight shooting for the girls.

The team played 3 games over Friday night and Saturday, resulting in just one win, and including one very disappointing 2 point loss to finish 4th after the round games.  This set the team up in a semi final against the undefeated New Zealand team. This game saw the Falcons girls show their true ability and determination to secure a 1 point victory.

The semi was played on the show court at Dandenong with the New Zealand team supported by a 50 - 60 strong crowd, shanting and trying every tactic to deter the Falcons girls.  Scoring was tough against the big New Zealand girls but the Falcons girls worked hard in defence and up and down the court to hold out for a 34 - 33 point win and grand final spot.

The girls went on to secure a comfortable 44 - 35 victory over Traralgon in the Grand Final.  Oscar stepped up from assistant coach to take the girls to victory in the final, where they controlled the game and played some of their best basketball for the weekend.  Jess Robinson was awarded the MVP in the final.

Congratulations to all the team Bec, Lou, Lauren, Jess, Elise, Brittney, Ellen, Laura, Tess and Claire, Oscar and Brendon.
