16.4 Boys Tournament Report

The Under 16.4 Boys had a great weekend at the Melbourne Tigers Tournament, capped off with a superb Grand Final win. Team Manager Christine Kennedy gave us this report from the weekend:

The 16.4 boys had a very successful Melbourne Tigers Tournament over the weekend, winning the Grand Final over a fiercely contested and determined Waverley 16.6s.

The boys got off to a slow start, playing at 10.10pm was a challenge for both players and sleepy parents. The boys went down by three points to Keysborough, the current leaders in their division. Saturday morning saw the boys rested and ready to win, and they charged away to a 62/23 victory over a shocked Melbourne 16.7. The boys needed to win the next game by 15 points to go through to the semi-finals and Collingwood 1 wanted to remain undefeated. Collingwood 1 tried various defensive plays and continually regrouped to challenge but to no avail. The 16.4's were the winners at 61/35.

The semi-finals saw the boys up against Collingwood 2, who put in a valiant effort but the 16.4s would not be denied, finishing at 51/29.
The Grand Final was all about the green and gold, lots of good natured ribbing and boasting but with both teams desperate for victory. With full credit to both teams for a great game, the 16.4s had their eyes on the trophies and were determined to leave with them. The 16.6s got their noses in front early in the first half, but the 16.4s stayed with their game plan and the final score 62/50 reflected that. Congratulations to Bol Bak for MVP and to all the boys from both teams for their great sportsmanship and never-say-die approach to the game. Thanks also to the coaches, scorers, parents and families whose support makes it all possible.
