With less than 90 days to go before the London Olympic Games, all attention turns to the Boomers and Opals as they embark on their final preparations. Both squads have had their fair share of injuries to deal with; however, over the next three months, things are going to heat up and Victorian basketball fans will get the opportunity to witness the action first hand as the Farewell Series makes its way around the state.

Australian basketball fans are presented with a special and historic opportunity to farewell our London-bound basketball stars with Melbourne Hisense Area hosting the much-anticipated Boomers and Jayco Opals double-header.

FIBA fourth-ranked Greece take on the Australian Boomers who will field their best available team from a squad of Australian NAB, European-based and NBL stars including the likes of San Antonio Spurs guard Patty Mills, David Anderson and Brad Newley.

Headlined by our twin towers Lauren Jackson and Liz Cambage, the star-studded Jayco Opals will face South American powerhouse Brazil in preparation for a shot at a fifth consecutive Olympic Medal. Don't miss your chance to celebrate and farewell our basketball stars on their final journey towards London.

NZ Breakers NBL Champs after Game 3 thriller

 

It took a final piece of CJ Bruton magic to steer the New Zealand Breakers home 79-73 over the Perth Wildcats.

 

 

 

 

After one of the greatest series of all time, the result came down to a desperate final quarter in which Amercian Gary Wilkinson willed the Breakers ahead with a string of clutch plays.
 

"I felt aggressive, in good rhythm and getting some good shots, so I took advantage of that to take the shots I thought I would make," said Wilkinson.

Calling all basketball history buffs...

Mormon Yankees Documentary Launch
 

 

 

The Mormon Yankees basketball team played a key role in the development of basketball in Victoria during the 1950's. This is the subject of a documentary (film & book) by Professor Fred Woods of Brigham Young University in the U.S. Professor Woods is visiting Australia in early May for a series of lectures to launch his documentary.

He will be showing the film (narrated by Andrew Gaze) and talking about his book at various locations across Melbourne.

Vic Metro Head Coach, Nic Abdicevic, talks us through one of the plays used by the Vic Metro U18 Men's Team at the Nationals earlier this month.

'Bingo' was an entry play to what is the world-famous 'Shuffle Offence.' You will notice if nothing comes of the play, players can reset and the 'Shuffle Offence' can begin.

Vic Metro U18 Men's and Women's teams win silver and bronze medals at the 2012 National Championship.

 

 
 
   
 
 

 

The Basketball Australia 2012 Under 18 Australian Junior Championships concluded on Saturday, 21st April after an impressive 8-day tournament in Perth, Western Australia, which saw 14 men's and 14 women's teams from throughout Australia and New Zealand competing for the prestigious annual U18 National Championship titles. Victoria was represented well with both Metro and Country Men's and Women's State Teams performing well.

Basketball Victoria celebrates another fantastic year!


 

 
On Tuesday the 17th of April, Basketball Victoria celebrated yet another fantastic year and the tireless work and efforts throughout 2011 of our players, officials, volunteers and Associations at the Basketball Victoria Annual Awards Dinner.
 
With 250 people in attendance for the evening, we joined together from across the state to commemorate the achievements of our Administrators, Volunteers, Players, Coaches, Officials and Media in Basketball in Victoria.
