Under 18.4 Boys Fight Valiantly

The Under 18.4 boys had a tough weekend back after the break, made even worse with some injuries and exhaustion, however they managed 2 wins from the weekend as they prepare for phase two of grading.

It was a rude awakening back to basketball for the 18.4 boys after the Christmas break.

Friday night took us to a hot Donvale stadium. Here the boys played Coburg 3, who gave us a flogging, losing by 30 points. Ryan Evans scored half our points with 2 three pointers.

Saturday morning the boys were up against Ringwood 5.   It was a positive start to the day with a 10 point win. Our tall man Callum started the game strong and this continued throughout the match. Ryan scored another nice 3 pointer. It was a much better team effort.

The following match was against Warrandyte. Wayne Evans filled in as coach for Sev. It was a steady start for the boys. It was very fast and as the game progressed it started to get quite physical. What we thought was a dislocated finger for Ryan ended up being a broken one. The boys ended up losing by 12 points.

The boys and parents enjoyed a team dinner before going head to head with Launceston. Even though it was another loss (6 points), the boys displayed some great team work with some excellent passing. The talls rebounded well against Launceston’s tall boy who was a giant (in height). There was some great passing amongst the boys, with Max, Connor and Mitchell combining well. It was a good game for Mitchell scoring 14 points.

Sunday’s game ended on a positive note with a win against Whittlesea. We were down to six team members. The boys’ bodies were feeling the effects of the weekend’s games, but they managed to keep it all together.

Well done boys as it was a really hot weekend. Some of the stadiums coped with the heat better than others. They managed to finish 5th on the ladder out of 8 teams. A big thank you to Sev and Wayne for coaching the boys. The biggest thank you should go to the parents who supported the boys throughout the tournament. We really do have a great group of parents.
