What started as a routine bank visit turned into something far different for WBA staffers Andrew Kelly and Shane Palmer on Wednesday.
At around lunchtime, Palmer was driving his car down Stephenson's Road near Waverley Road when passenger Kelly spotted something on the road ahead.
Walking gingerly between lanes was a small cat, apparently uninjured, but doing a pretty decent Nick Nolte day-after impression.
As cars in the lanes on either side slowed down, waited for the cat to move and then sped off, Kelly got out of the car, crawled under the Palmer-mobile and secured the nervous cat and found refuge on the nature strip.
A passer by suggested the RSPCA on Burwood Highway and so Palmer and Kelly set off, arriving shortly after with the cat still apparently petrified. Palmer went in and collected a cat basket while Kelly stood outside with the little creature trying to not look too suspicious.
The cat is now with the RSPCA who will examine it for injuries and try to determine if the cat has an owner. Since there was no collar on the cat, it may be a tough search.
We will check back with the RSPCA in the coming days to see how the cat is, and update on the website accordingly.
