Under 16.1 Girls Respond to Challenge

The Under 16.1 Girls had a tough weekend after stepping up to A Reserve grade, however their performances over the weekend showed they are more than ready for the rigours of grading phase two and the season after that. Coach Mark Sainsbery gives us a wrap of the weekend:

Despite being seeded in a tough Pool, the team never stopped trying over the weekend and continued to work hard on their basketball development.

It was pleasing to see bottom age players Katherine Ellis and Jemima Sennitt play well gaining confidence. Hayley McPhillips had a dominant weekend and first year Falcon Jacque Stabelos also produced solid games. Injuries and illness restricted the input in games from senior players in Tamara Ludekens, Holly Sainsbery and Daniella Catanese, however, this trio showed glimpses of their talent. Lauren Mitchell and Sami Stewart also worked hard on the boards especially against much taller opponents. Unfortunately, Chloe Betts was unavailable over the weekend due to school commitments.

Despite losing all 5 games, this did not dampen the girl’s spirit and the most pleasing aspect of the weekend was the way in which each player continued to work hard.

The team now focuses on the all important Grading Phase 2 where a Metro Division place is up for grabs.

I thank Pina Catanese (Team Manager), Kate de Groot (Team Motivator) and Melissa Sudero (Team Photographer) for their assistance over the weekend. Also, thanks to the parents for the commitment that they showed.

Go Falcons!
