Falcons Sign Bennie Lewis

The Waverley Falcons’ campaign for a third straight State Championship Men’s title has received a massive boost with the signing of Melbourne Tigers NBL player Bennie Lewis.
Lewis is known as an explosive scorer and superior athlete. He has been the leading scorer for the Melbourne Tigers Big V team the last two seasons, and has scored in double figures five times in his two seasons for the Tigers in the NBL.
Big V fans also got a taste of Lewis’ acrobatic skills at last year's Big V All-Star event, where he was recognised as the best performer in the game.
The signing comes hot on the heels of the signing of former Falcon Brad Kelleher. Kelleher had previously played Youth League and State Championship with the Falcons before heading to the US to play College Basketball.
Meanwhile, the Falcons Women’s side has had a busy preseason as they prepare for the State Championship Women season. The squad has been training hard throughout January, for what will be the first campaign at the top level for much of the team.
Coach Elias Palioyiannis, who was promoted to the senior team after leading the Falcons Youth League Women to a Grand Final sweep of the Melbourne Tigers last season, has organised a number of high quality practice games to help his team adjust to the physicality of State Championship.
The Big V preseason Tournament will take place over Labour Day weekend at MSAC, with the season proper tipping off the next weekend.
