With a superb 2nd half defensive effort, the Under 16 (2) Girls’ Team have claimed the Gold Medal against the Mornington Breakers. Before a large crowd at the Chelsea Stadium, both teams looked nervous early on and whilst the Falcons appeared to be the better of the 2 teams in the 1st half, it was Mornington who held a 22 - 21 lead at the main break. The Falcons then took control of the game particularly on the defensive boards with Georgia Holland and Jane Thompson shutting down the Mornington bigs. Jess Garnham and Holly Sainsbery continuing their solid finals form from the perimeter hitting some big trey's and with Grand Final MVP Mikaela Miller and point guard Tamara Ludekens both playing 'smart ball', the Falcons overpowered the Breakers to claim a 40 - 28 win. Restricting Mornington to just 6 points in the 2nd half was an outstanding performance.
