16.2 Girls Runners Up

Under 16 (2) Team

Melbourne Tigers Tournament
CHAMPIONSHIP RUNNERS UP

The team played very well during the tournament allowing us to work on areas of the game such as shot selection, court awareness and transition.

Game 1. Vs. Keilor
Our running game and solid press produced some quality play which saw us claim a comfortable 59 – 14 win to give us a perfect start to the tournament.

Game 2. Vs. Saints
After conceding the first 5 points of the game, the girls stepped it up a notch playing solid ‘D’ to produce a solid 46 – 12 win.

Game 3. Vs. Koonung
To decide top spot in our Pool, the girls worked hard in a physical game to claim a well deserved 34 – 25 win.

Semi Final Vs. Melbourne
The 47 – 22 win was set up be an impressive display of defence along with our running game and structured offence.

Grand Final Vs. Koonung
We struggled with the opposition height after losing our centre to a knee injury prior to the game. The girls battled hard but eventually succumbed to the Comets 47 – 33.

With an emphasis on having fun over the weekend, the girls certainly did this! It was also a perfect way to get substantial minutes into the girls as we lead up towards the finals of the season proper and the players continued to work hard on our structures. The team consisted of Ansley Alexander, Eliza Sabbatucci, Gabby Cannizzo, Georgia Holland, Jess Garnham, Holly Sainsbery, Mikaela Miller and Tamara Ludekens.

Sitting in 2nd place in East Division 1, the girls are currently on a 9 game undefeated streak and with continued effort at both training and in games, have the opportunity to play a major part in the VJBL Finals Series.

Thanks to Anthony Garnham (Assistant Coach), Lisa Garnham (Team Manager) and Kate de Groot (Team Motivator) for their assistance over the busy weekend. Also, a big thanks to the parents of our wonderful girls. Thank you to Mike Bullock and WBA for their assistance to the team for the tournament.
