The Waverley Basketball Association is excited to announce the appointment of Sedale Threatt as coach of our Waverley Falcons Youth League Men's team in the Big V League and Sedale Threatt Jnr as coach of our Under 20 first team in the VJBL for the 2011 season.
Sedale Threatt is a retired American Basketball player in the NBA. He played College basketball at the West Virginia Institute of Technology and was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1983. He played for four years for the 76ers until he was signed by the Chicago Bulls in 1987, then in 1988 he was traded to the Seattle SuperSonics. He stayed in Seattle for four years before being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on October 2, 1991. Threatt was expected to play a back up role to Magic Johnson, however when Johnson retired Threatt became the starting point guard. Threatt led the Lakers in assists, steals and minutes played each of his first two seasons with the Lakers. In 1992-93 he became the second player in Laker franchise history (joining Magic Johnson) to lead the Lakers in scoring (15.1), assists (6.9) and steals (1.7.) He scored a career high 42 points against the New York Knicks on 03/10/92 and scored a career playoff high 35 points in Game 1 of the 1993 Western Conference Quarter Finals against the Phoenix Suns.
Finishing his career with the Houston Rockets, Threatt gained the distinction of having been the only player in NBA history to have been a teammate of Dr. J, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson (in '95-'96), and Hakeem Olajuwon.
Sedale Threatt Jr. is currently being hailed as "Unguardable" for his exceptional ball handling skills and his talents on the court as seen in the AND1 Australian Tours 2005 - 2008 and in the Big V Basketball League.
Threatt, born in Atlanta, Georgia, is the first born child of Desiree White and 15 year NBA veteran, Sedale Threatt. Threatt attended the University of California, Baskersfield on a basketball scholarship, before moving to Australia, meeting his current wife and establishing a national basketball company designed to cater to the elite juniors of Australia, AUBD(Australian Basketball Digest).
The AUBD signature program, “Basketball College”, selects elite junior basketball players in Australian to be developed by x-professional basketball players, in preparation for American college basketball. The elite staff of the Basketball College program include his father and NBL greats Lanard Copeland & Darryl “D-Mac” McDonald.
Threatt is currently the starting point guard for the SCM Waverley Falcons is also named as the starting point guard for the "Rush" team in the Foot Locker Elite Classic Tournament 2010
In another announcement General Manager Mike Bullock was also pleased to appoint Eric Minerve as our Big V Championship Men's team coach and also Eric will work as Coaching Director for the Falcons Junior Boys program. In addition, Elias Palioyiannis will be Coaching Director for the Falcons Girls Junior program and coach the Youth League Women in the Big V League.
