Waverley Falcons under 14 Girls Travel in style

The traffic was horrific but that did not seem to matter as the CROWN bus taking the girls to Geelong was comfortable and warm and the outside world seemed miles away. Stories of traffic jams long delays were soon a distant memory as the girls ate snacks, chatted and listened to Chris Taylor talk about the importance to focus on the upcoming game.
Waverley started slowly but controlled th ball well in the first fifteen minutes of the game. It was nip and tuck and at half time only four points separated the sides. It was a different Waverley that came out for the second half, it was class basketball from the first tip off. Codie played one of her best games for the season and was strong in both defense and attack. Prue and Iffi were lightning fast in moving the ball from defense into attack. The most pleasing feature of the game was the control the girls had with very few turnovers. Mel controlled the ball allowing the girls to set up plays and then moving the ball to a player quickly. Laura and Selini were strong under the baskets. Beth was in everything again playing one of her best games for the season. Clare has been injured for a while and in her come back game showed the old touch will not be long coming back.Zali was hard at the ball and  got many touches.  Amy spent little time on the court as she came back from school camp with a cold and was not feeling well at all. But like all the girls, gives everything to be part of this talented side..
It was a magnificent team effort that saw Waverley run out winners 47 to 17
Geelong were gracious hosts and provided after game refreshments for the side also the mum’s and dad’s.
The trip back to Melbourne was a happy one with Ben, the coach driver making an unscheduled stop at McDonalds.
Congratulations to Chris Taylor for suggesting we go by coach and to Jim Crane for organizing everything to make it a stress free trip. A special mention to the mum’s and dad’s who supported the coach and team by making sure the girls had the opportunity to get together and have a pleasant trip. It must have been good the girls suggested we take a coach even to the home games
