Junior Falcons

5/31/2010
Congratulations U/18 Girls!

The Under 18 girls have created Waverley Falcons history by becoming the first girls team to qualify for the McDonald’s National Junior Classic.
The news came as the Falcons ended the first half of the season with a 5-4 record, good for fourth in their conference and a place in the coveted VC 1 division for the remaining nine games of the Victorian Junior Championship season.
The team will compete in the prestigious tournament during the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, along with the under 16 boys who qualified after a 7-2 start to the season.
The inclusion in the tournament, which features the best junior teams from around Australia, is yet another in a growing list of achievements in a landmark season for not only the team, but the entire Falcons’ girls program.
Coach Elias Palioyiannis is sure to turn the heat up at training as the squad now need to prepare themselves for the gruelling schedule, which will see them play six fully timed games within three days.
The National Junior Classic is an invitation only tournament featuring 16 teams from metropolitan and country Victoria, as well as interstate, in each age group from under 12s through to under 18s. The tournament will be held at Dandenong Basketball Stadium and fixtures can be accessed at the National Junior Classic website.
