Junior Falcons

1/2/2010
16.5 Boys Australia Day Tournament 2010

UNDER 16 DIVISION C - WAVERLEY 5

First game in from a big break, and the team seemed a little rusty on Friday night with a 6 point loss to Camberwell4.
The first game for Saturday morning, and the boys proved they were’ AWAKE’ with a 22 point win over Eltham8.
They were simply ‘on fire’ when they met the Ringwood6 team, scoring the highest winning margin for their pool of 30 points.
By Saturday evening, small signs of exhaustion were creeping in, with a 6 point loss to Warrandyte.
Sunday morning and the team were like a well-oiled machine, securing their place in the semi’s with a 9 point win over Craigieburn3.

The semi’s also meant that the team faced Camberwell4 again – the only un-defeated team in the pool.  The game was an absolute nail-biter! Within the last seconds of the game, and the weight of the team on his shoulders, Connor Schomburgk sunk two impressive free throws shots to level the score.  Overtime was called and after three very long minutes (for both the team and parents) and with the team’s never failing spirit, the Falcons took the lead by one point.

The team was into the Grand Final!

They faced an impressive Melton Thoroughbreds2.  The boys, played their hearts out, but couldn’t quite match the Thoroughbreds, coming runners-up with a 14 point loss.
Congratulations to Jono Diver for the much deserved, Most Valuable Player Award and congratulations also go to the entire team, and Coach Wayne, on a terrific effort and excellent team spirit displayed during the entire tournament.
