18.2 Girls Battle against Whittlesea

Waverley 18.2 Girls provided Whittlesea 2 with their closest and toughest match in many weeks last night in a gutsy  24-40 loss to the top of the table team. Even with a line-up affected by injury and illness, Waverley was able to hold Whittlesea to a three point margin at the end of the first half. It was the fresh legs on the Whittlesea bench that eventually made the difference. In complimenting the Waverley girl’s on their efforts after the game the Whittlesea coach commented on the improvement in the girl’s game since the grading games. Scoring honours were spread evenly amongst the team and defense was solid throughout the game. The significant area of difference between the two teams was the ability of Whittlesea to trap the ball handler and gain the turnover. The majority of their lead coming from converted steals and the subsequent fast break.
