16.1 Girls Season Review

16.1 GIRLS SEASON IN SUMMARY

The 16.1 girls team consisting of Shannen, Mel, Laura, Evangelia, Iffy, Prue, Bethany, Isobel and Claire, completed an exciting season under coach Elias Palioyiannis. After 14 wins, 3 losses, and a draw, the team finished a very healthy 2nd on the ladder, which held it in good stead for the finals campaign..
After losing a nailbiting qtr final by one point to Warragul ,Elias and the girls went into last Friday’s semi final determined to take advantage of their 2nd chance. Sadly, their campaign came to an abrupt end after yet another nailbiter, this time against Sunbury, who snatched the win in overtime.
After a gruelling pre season and a not so friendly grading phase, the girls narrowly missed out on playing at Victorian Championship level by one game. After winning the first 6 games on the trot in VJL.1, the team deservedly gained the reputation as being the fittest and fastest in the league! It had to, given that it was also the shortest.

Reaching the finals of the Eltham/Dandenong tournament. travelling to Adelaide at Easter to compete against top Victorian and interstate teams, and likewise during the Nunawading tournament, where the girls beat several of the top teams, were all added highlights of the season..

Coach Elias’ elite approach to training, whereby 100% team commitment to attendance, punctuality, attitude and effort, was paramount every session. Of course, this naturally translated to team success on gameday. For this, the players are grateful, and after having caught ‘the bug’, are anxious to maintain their fitness and continue the journey next season.

As a proud team manager, I’d like to congratulate Elias and the girls and thank their families for the commitment and support they have shown throughout the season. Well Done!!!!
