The u18.1 boys had a fantastic weekend competing at the National Junior Classic, over the course of the weekend we had 5 tough games against the best junior talent in the country. I would like to thank all the players for there un-waning determination and character over the course of the weekend without these two ingredients we would not have been successful. I would like to also thank the parents & supporters for there great support throughout the tough contests which we endured it really was appreciated by all the players & coaching staff.
Our approach in the U18s this season thus far has been to provide an environment where the players enjoyed to play in and play for the club & team first, also spending significant time on improving individual skills attempting to make all players involved in the process better players and play in positions where there going to play at the senior level. Over the course of the weekend I was very pleased to see skills that as coaches I had been teaching for 8 months over the summer months & early mornings transfer in live big game environments.
As a group system wise both offensively & defensively they have matured & improved significantly over the course of the year and over the weekend brought it all together at the right moment to win the National Classic Grand final against a Dandenong team with a considerable number of current state players who had dominated this age group in previous years on there home floor in a very hostile environment.
Credit to the boys and families who have shown great commitment as a group in wanting to get better and improving both as individuals & as a team and as a direct result of there hard work they came out the victor at the weekends end. A further mention goes to the Grand Final MVP, Adam Blackmore
Waverley has never won this event in the u18 competition in club history I could not be prouder of every member in the team, I am sure the moments over the weekend will remain a bond with this group for years to come.
