Basketball Victoria Coaching Clinic

2008 has seen a number of high quality coaches conduct educational sessions for our coaches on a variety of topics and areas of the game.

Our final coaching clinic for this year will be held on Monday 1st December at Box Hill Senior Secondary. Senior Men’s coaches from four different associations will conduct a half hour coaching clinic; each providing their own topic for coaches to learn about.

Bill Runchey, the long time Head Coach of the Frankston SEABL Men’s team will cover ‘shooting’ during his half hour. Frankston is recognised as being one of the better shooting teams within SEABL; coach Runchey will share tips and drills for coaches to take to their players and teams.

Graham Longstaff will cover defence. Longstaff is the Head Coach of the Knox Senior Men and they are the defending champions of the East Conference of the SEABL competition. Defence will be the topic of Longstaff’s half hour period.

Kilsyth Men’s Head Coach –Grant Wallace will cover rebounding. It is widely regarded that rebounding is one of the most under-taught aspects of the game. Coach Wallace will do all he can to provide coaches with drills to help make this a more effective part of your team’s game.

Our final coach for the night will be Sedale Threatt. Sedale is currently the Head Coach of Nunawading’s Men’s team. As a player, Threatt played 951 games in the NBA averaging an impressive 9.8ppg and also 3.8 assists per game throughout his career, including a career best 42 point game against the New York Knicks. Sedale will take coaches at the clinic through aspects of Individual Offence. His credentials would suggest he is well polished in this area of the game.

Entry for al coaches on the night will be just $5. All four of these coaches have recently or continue to be involved in coaching at a junior level and are therefore more than aware of the issues that coaches face on a week to week basis. They are all amongst the leading coaches not only within the SEABL competition, but at the junior and senior levels nationally.

Please make sure you register for this opportunity, it promises to be a great opportunity for further coach education.
