Two premierships, three runners up for Falcons

The Waverley Falcons have two junior premierships to celebrate this season.

The Under 14.1 Boys and Under 14.4 Boys both came through with the goods in their Grand Finals over the weekend, while the 12.1 Boys, 14.2 Boys and 16.3 Boys all suffered very close losses.

Gracing the show court at Dandenong, the Under 14.1 Boys, coached by Andy Lim, showed why they had been the dominant team in their league all season. Despite a chequered record against Nunawading from the encounters during the regular season, the Falcons reigned supreme with a comprehensive 20-point win. The night was capped off by Sam Hynes winning the Grand Final MVP award.

The other Falcons premiership came in more familiar surroundings as the 14.4 Boys got home in a thriller against the 14.2 Boys. It came right down to the last couple of possessions as the fours held on to win by three points. The game was close the whole way, both teams enjoying slender leads at times in front of a packed house at Waverley. Fogi Obai from the 14.4s was named MVP of the Grand Final. (If anyone's got the photo of the two teams together we'd love to get that up on the website)

The Under 12.1 Boys had a difficult task on Friday against Frankston 2, who they hadn't beaten during the season. The boys took it right to 'em, but fell narrowly short in the end. A great effort to be Runners Up.

The Under 16.3 Boys played one of the most nailbiting games of the weekend in their Grand Final against Nunawading. It was all tied up with just 12 seconds remaining, but it wasn't to be for the Falcons who came agonisingly short, by just one point.
