Court 1 scores a new board

After countless faithful years of service, the iconic Court 1 scoreboard has finally been retired.

The scoreboard was often the first thing visitors would notice when they came up the stairs and walked through the canteen area, the bright lights and massive display catching the eye of all who walked past. Over the years it kept score for a seemingly endless number of games, everything from Under 8 domestic to senior international basketball.

Father Time however is a worthy foe and the scoreboard had in later years become another casualty in it's undefeated run. It had become increasingly difficult to effectively use the clock, the points counter would occasionaly jump up and down randomly, and the changes to the shot clock rule signalled the end was near for one of Waverley Basketball's great ambassadors.

The last official game on the old scoreboard was last Friday's VJBL, however the scoreboard was given a swansong in Sunday's Big V Women practice game. The scoreboard will remain there for a little while longer, looking over Court 1 like the eyes of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg.

The end of one era is the beginning of another however, and it is with pleasure that we unveil our new scoreboard and usher in a new era of scorekeeping for non-domestic games on Court 1. The new Blue-Vane Millenium scoreboard was installed on the canteen end of the court this week, and it is lit up and looking great.

The new scoreboard got its debut in Wednesday Night's MMBL, with the first ever game on the scoreboard between Waverley and Old Scotch. The first score to go up on the new scoreboard, was ironically enough, late start points.

It is another example of how Waverley Basketball is continuing to work to improve our customer experience. Want to see the scoreboard in action? No better time than when the Big V Season tips off in just a months time!
