NBL1 Falcons
Finals and final round
25/07/2018

The action reaches fever pitch at Waverley this weekend with both a YLM preliminary final and the State Championship final round in a simply massive weekend.

There will be a place in the Grand Final on the line on Saturday Night at the Falcons Youth League 1 Men host the Werribee Devils in a one-and-done preliminary final. The Devils got the better of an undermanned Falcons team a couple of weeks ago, but with all the big guns back in the lineup, the Falcons will be out to show that their 2nd place finish in the regular season was no accident, and that their spot in the big dance is well deserved. It won't be easy, elimination games never are, but it should be an awesome contest between two great sides with everything to play for.

Expect a finals-like atmosphere on Sunday as well as Waverley hosts its only State Championship Double Header of the entire regular season, in the final round. Both Falcons State Championship teams currently sit in the top 2, and require wins to ensure they stay there at the end of the round and earn a spot straight through into the semi-final. The difference between finishing second and third is pronounced: second gets a week off in the first week of finals and earns home court advantage in the best-of-3 semi finals, while 3rd must endure an elimination final to get through to the semi-finals. Both teams face tough games, the Women take on Hume City and the men face Casey.

Every game is sure to be a ripper, a great weekend of basketball at the Nest.
