WBA Update on courtside technology
30/11/2017

Waverley Basketball Association has led the way with technology since the implementation of touch screen scoring in 2008, TV scoreboards in 2009, and video game replays in secure team lounges since 2010.  In addition we have a secure and private detailed statistics vault of player and team season and career history, as well as the live media and broadcasting of our Big V Falcon teams streamed worldwide.

We have recently experienced some issues with our scoreboards and we would like to take this opportunity to provide an explanation. After more than eight years of competition, with approximately 220 games per week at the main stadium, the computers are requiring an upgrade and in addition, we’re seeking to replace them with more cutting edge technology.

The current issues faced are directly hardware related, affecting specific courts in the following ways:
- Court 3 hard drive malfunction
- Court 1 calibration tool follwing the last windows update requing use of a mouse instead of touchscreen
- Court 6 video splitters and components have experienced issues.

As a result, Court 3 and 6 games are being scored using an electronic scoring monitor in conjunction with a seperate display scoreboard, similar to most other basketball stadiums across the country.  As this is the standard across all venues, we have decided to continue with these measures until the new technology is installed.

Moving forward, Courts 5 and 6 will have custom made hardware for our specific needs which will eliminate all issues throughout the next decade of their use.  The successful implementation of this plan on Courts 5 and 6 will then lead to the same process being carried out for Courts 1-4.

One regular question from our members is when Waverley will use Stadium Scoring for VJBL games on Friday nights.  This is currently a discussion we are having with the league, and we hope to have a resolution by the time the championship season commences next year.

WBA appreciates the inconvenience and frustration this can cause teams, and thank members for their understanding as we work to have issues rectified and technology operating effectively as part of our long term vision.
